Pride Breaker
Jonah 4:1-11 (Part of the Communion Services series).
God will take us thru things that will break our pride. Things that break our pride of thinking that we know more than God. Jonah thought he knew better than God even after the thousands repented. Jonah got mad at God when He showed mercy. God had already showed His mercy towards Jonah. We are the same at times when we look at others and think that another doesn't deserve His mercy. Jonah tried to watch what was going to take place after he preached to Ninevah and God took care of him and protected him from the heat. In his prideful arrogance he forgot about what took place and felt that the city should have been destroyed. How often do we go thru troubles and trials of our own making because we won't soften our hearts and do what God has said? Don't let yourself get in the way of Gods mercies. Repent of your sins. Turn away from your sins. How many times do you come to church mad at another person thinking they shouldn't have Gods mercy? All along knowing we NEVER deserved Gods mercies ourself.
Preached by Bruce Whitehead on June 4, 2017 (Communion).
A Firm Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:10-11 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
The word foundation is mentioned 84 times in the bible. When one decided to build a building one sits down and figures how to do it. Then the footers are dug down to solid ground to have a firm foundation. So how firm is your foundation with Jesus Christ? The first step in having a firm foundation in Christ is being saved. When tragedy shows up and shakes your life will you still stand? Acts 8:5-8 We have no idea what we will face each day but we must trust in the one that does know, God. Acts 8:30-31 How can a lost person be saved unless someone tell them? Teens are looking for guidance. Adults should watch what they teach at all times. Young people should find an elder and allow them to teach them a firm foundation.
Preached by Darrell Croft on June 15, 2016 (Wednesday).
At the End of Your Rope
Jonah 2:1-10 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
When a man goes far enough from God, it takes desperate measures to go back. There are many in this world that they know that they've been saved but they've turned away from God. Even though those have turned away, God NEVER let's them go. God knows how to make you pray. To some that turn away, it takes the worst punishment for them to turn back to God. Man changes all the time but god has never changed. Not one personal can look upon another and judge them to say that they are being punished due to their backslid life. God will never give up on you if you are one of His. God was not joking around and laughing about it when He put His ONLY son on the cross and turn ed His back on Him to allow Him to die. God is not out to punish people. God just wants us to obey. All that one has to do is to confess their sins and turn back towards Him. Do you think God would take you home if you are behaving badly enough?
Preached by Tommy Boring on April 9, 2014 (Wednesday).
A Rebellious Dove
Jonah 1:1-17 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
The word Jonah means, dove. We do not think of a dove as being rebellious and yet we look at our own and wonder why we are so rebellious. When God breathed into Adam, He breathed into him a living soul that will go back to God in the end for judgement. God created man in order for man to worship Him but man also has a choice. We as a human want to do what we want to do. Maybe God has called you to do something. If that is the case, stop running and surrender to God and do as He's said. Have you thought that God has never called you to do something? He has told you to arise and go seeking those that should be saved. God has called us to be faithful and to pray. The one major problem with the universal church is faithfulness. We also need to be faithful to each other and to get along with each other. God has also called us to be faithful to the church. We are to assemble ourselves together in corporate worship. How would you feel if the pastor decided not to be faithful and not show up for church? We've also been called to pray, pray with stopping. How many of you actually pray, praying for what ever Gods will is you'll be perfectly alright with it? Even during regular church services when the time of prayer comes some choose not to pray. How can you call yourself a Christian and not be faithful and pray? There are people that are running from God and being rebellious against His calling. How far do you have to run before you are away from God? If you are save and truly a Christian and rebelling against God, there will be a "but the Lord" moment will take place in your life. If you born again, then you have a father and He loves you therefore He will chastise the ones that are His. While you rebel against God you not only affect yourself, but you also affect those around you.
Preached by Tommy Boring on April 6, 2014 (Sunday Morning).
Does God Hear Your Prayer?
Jonah 1:1-9 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
If we could get into the right frame of mind, we would see things to begin to happen. Jonah was in just the same shape as the world is in now. He was disobedient to God. We say our prayers each day or night but did we actually mean it or think about it? Did you really think about what God has done for you? Too many times we are afraid to talk to God because we are afraid of what He will say to us. We need to get like Jonah and get serious with God. Has God asked you to do something but you've refused? God wants us to talk to Him, seriously, not flippantly. Jonah didn't have to ask if God heard him, he knew in his soul that God answered him. Stop throwing your prayers in the air and hoping God catches them. God gave us salvation and then we sit down on it. Picture your friends, children, family and everyone else you know burning in hell for eternity. Is that serious? Then get serious with God!
Preached by Steve Whitehead on July 3, 2013 (Wednesday).
