Scripture: Nehemiah 2:17-18

We can look back into our past and see those people we knew that were tough, men and women. They were tough because of the times they lived in. Their surroundings at times made them tough. If the A/C went out in a hot summer the church would be called off likely. Just a few years ago the church didn’t have an A/C and those people came anyway. They made a way to get through all kinds of things.

Three components to being tough, spirit, physical, and mind. It’s time in the Christian church that quit making excuses to not work for God. There will always be some type of hindrance or battle that will come against a person. In order to work through those things we must be prepared for them in advance. One must make their mind up in advance. 2 Timothy 4; there will be times that you will be knocked down, your body will tell you no, but you must persevere. Don’t give up! Some of us allow every little thing to cause us not to go to church. Our hands are meant to work for God. There are things that we might be going through that God allows and will not remove. There is a reason for that thing. Your body will call time out before you will. The devil loves to attack the body to cause your mind to give up. Revivals nowadays barely last 2-3 days anymore. Just a few years ago, revivals used to last a month or more. Have you ever wondered why they don’t last long? It’s because people are lazy, the devil tells the body to tell the mind that one can’t handle it.

Make a sacrifice and come to church on Sunday morning. After Sunday morning make another sacrifice and attend Sunday evening service. Wednesday service is just as important as the Sunday morning service. If one continues to make the sacrifice of attending each service then they will begin to get tougher and stronger in God.

Don’t slack on the body. Physical strength. It takes physical strength to get the work done for God. However, your mind is the most important because there are multiple places where the devil can enter the mind. Our eyes, nose, ears, mouth, etc. Most rely solely on the preacher to feed their minds of God. They have no daily working of their minds on their own to strengthen their minds with God. Your mind must be tough or you will not be tough at all. Your mind will take you down before you know it. Your mind will cause you to do things that you never thought you would do. When one flips on Fox News and feeds their minds of what they want one to know then they are being fed something not of God. Flip open the Word of God and let God feed your mind. Let your mind be in God and not the world. You will not be able to stand against the devil if your mind is not strengthened unto God. The devil can’t make you unsaved if you’re saved. However, he can make you unaffected by God.

Whatever happened to the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”?

Our spiritual strength is also important for it to be tough. We must allow and believe God in what He wants in our lives. Instead of making excuses to not work for God, start doing for God and not self. Physical toughness requires repetition. Every muscle you have must be worked in order to be strong or to continue to keep working. Our Christian life must be worked in order to be strong in God. Are you accustomed to working a full shift for God? Continue to exercise your body, mind, and spirit in God. What a man thinks, that’s what he will do.

Start with the heart and once your heart gets right the mind will follow. When your mind gets right then your flesh will follow.
