Articles of Faith

1. We believe in only one true and living God, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and these three are one.

1 Corinthians 8:5-6 “For though there be they that are called gods whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many and lords many). But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one.”

2. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, and only rule of saving knowledge.

2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”
2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

3. We believe in election according to the foreknowledge of God, the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth.

1 Peter 1:2 “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace be multiplied.”
Ephesians 1:4 “According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”

4. We believe in the doctrine of Original sin.

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”
Genesis 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

5. We believe in man’s impotency to recover himself from the fallen state that he is by his own free will or ability.

Romans 4:16 “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the Father of us all.”
John 6:44 “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

6. We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the inspired righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 5:9 “And they sung a new song saying ‘Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and has redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”
Romans 4:2 “For if Abraham were justified by works he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.”
James. 2:23 “And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness; and he was called the Friend of God.”

7. We believed that the saints will persevere in grace and never fall finally away.

John 10:27-29 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.”
1 Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

8. We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper were ordained by Jesus Christ, and that the true believers are the only fit subjects of these ordinances and that the true mode of baptism is immersion.

Matthew 3:6 “And were baptized of him in Jordan confessing their sins.”
Mark 1:10 “and straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens open, and the spirit like a dove descending upon him.”
Romans 6:4 “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death.”
Ephesians 4:5 “One Lord, one faith, one baptism.”

9. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and a general judgment.

Luke 24:47 “And said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day.”
Matthew 16:21 “From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed, and be raised again the third day.”
1 John 2:28 “And now little children, abide in him, that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at this coming.”
1 Corinthians 15:51-52 “Behold I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

10. We believe the punishment of the wicked will be everlasting, and that the joys of the righteous will be eternal.

Matthew 25:46 “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal.”
2 Thessalonians 1:9 “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power.”

11. We believe no minister has a right to the administering of the ordinances except such as are regularly called and come under the imposition of hands by a presbytery.

Acts 13:2-3 “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.”
Romans 1:6 “Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ.”
Titus 1:5 “For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee.”

12. We believe in observing the Sabbath day as a day of rest and that feet washing ought to be kept up by the Church of Jesus Christ.

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.”
Exodus 20:11 “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; Wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
Exodus 31:14-15 “Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you; everyone that defileth it shall surely be put to death; For whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people, six days may work be done, but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord; whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath, he shall surely be put to death.”
John 13:14-15 “If I then your Lord and Master have washed you feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”
1 Peter 2:21 “For even here unto were ye called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”

13. We believe that the church of Jesus Christ should have no organic connection with any society or institution of man not authorized in God’s word.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; an I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
Isaiah 52:11 “Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord.”
James 1:27 “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this. To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
