Scripture: 1 Peter 2:1-8

Peter, a fisherman by trade. Peter, the man that cut off a soldier’s ear off. Peter, the man that rejoiced at being beaten for Christ’s namesake. This same man would speak of how precious Jesus is.

When something becomes precious it becomes your priority. Jesus spoke of a story that a man spent all he had for a pearl that he wanted greatly. Husbands often speak of their wives being precious to them.

The trial of our faith is precious. We often times see it as a burden. Yet, Peter compared the trial of our faith is more precious than gold. How can something so difficult be so precious? It produces praises and worship to God. Don’t underestimate what God is doing in your life.

The blood of Christ is precious. God didn’t use the value that the world sees and knows to pay for our sin debt. He used something that is precious to Him, His only son. Jesus Christ bled out on this earth giving His blood for the sins of sinners. What can wash away our sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

How precious Christ is.

Jesus is precious to God. He is the most precious thing there is. God boomed from Heaven and said that He was His son and He was well pleased. Just as soon as Mary was told that she would conceive Jesus, the devil was hot on His heels. Is He the most precious thing to you?

To the church the most precious thing is Jesus. The one thing that should never take place is putting the pastor on a pedestal. The man of God should not be more precious than Jesus. How many of you came into the church house with your spiritual sacrifice? Jesus is more precious than your job. Most of us can get up at 6am daily to get to our jobs on time yet we can’t attend church 3 times a week. If Jesus means more to you than anything, then why are you not worshiping Him? If you walked into our church wanting to hear Pastor Tommy Boring preach, then you’ve missed the mark. It’s not about the pastor, the singers, the building, or the fact that we’ve been established in the community for 90 years. It’s about Jesus Christ and nothing else. There is nothing greater than Jesus Christ.

To have Jesus high and lifted up. As one walks into our church the first focal point one sees is a large cross. Our focus should and is on Jesus Christ, high and lifted up. As a Christian one should have a testimony unto salvation. This testimony should declare Jesus as precious. One can’t fuss at a blind person because they can’t see a tree. Yet a Christian should hold Jesus as precious, high, and lifted up and should not have anything above Him.
