Scripture: 1 John 1:5-10

We are going to take a simple test. Answering the test is not the problem, it’s what you’re going to do about the results. There is no convincing to God that you are a good person and should be graded on a curve. One can’t say “I’m saved” without repentance. You can’t judge yourself based on another person. One person is just as a sinner as you are and you can’t judge yourself off another sinner. Judge yourself from the perfection of God.

The Test

  1.  Do you walk in the light?
    1. 1 John 1:5-6 – We live in a world that is full of darkness. God is nothing but light, pure light. One can’t walk in the darkness and then say they have fellowship with God. You will either be in darkness or light, you can’t be in both. It’s either pass or fail.
    2. 1 John 1:7 – You need to be born again if you are lost. Again, you can’t walk in the light if you’ve never been saved. Your life will prove if you walk in the light or darkness. It’s either pass or fail.
  2. Do you have sin?
    1. 1 John 1:8-9 – If you say you have no sin then you lie because we are all sinners. If you never repent of your sins then you lie to yourself, others, and God. If you confess your sins, God is faithful to forgive you. It’s either pass or fail.
  3. Have you sinned?
    1. 1 John 1:10 – There is a difference between having sin and sinning. Everyone that makes a statement of not sinning calls God a liar because He stated that you have. There is only one answer, Jesus. Jesus loved you enough that He gave Himself to be the sin sacrifice for our sins. It’s either pass or fail.

How do you pass the test?
Step 1. Accept His invitation of salvation.
Step 2. Confess your sins to God.
Step 3. Believe in Jesus Christ.
