Scripture: James 5:17-18

Elias (Elijah) was just like us having good days and bad. There’s going to come a point in our lives no matter how strong we are in the Lord we will struggle. A low point in your life. Yet, while in that lowness in your walk, God knows where you’re at, always. Likewise, if we see someone down in the dumps of life we ought not to judge but pray for them to obtain strength through God.

God provided everything that Elijah needed. At the widow woman’s house, he needed bread and water and the widow gave him them. Her obedience to the man of God gave her meal and water that never ran out. Later we see that her son passed away and Elijah came back and raised him from the dead. Later we read that Elijah was to prove his god to the other gods. A pit was dug, water was filled in it as well as the wood was wet. Elijah’s God came down and consumed all of it proving that He is the only god.

He spent three years living near a brook where he dwelt with God. He had lived for God and done everything for Him. He was worn out and needed a break. God knew what he needed and sent an angel to him. Elijah just wanted to give up and for God to take him home. God knows what you need and when you need it. When the angel came down he brought water which is reminiscent of the Holy Spirit. When he awoke he had water by his head and a cake baking on the coals. Just as the widow woman had given him, God provided by remembrance. Elijah asked for death yet God gave him life.

Have you ever been in a place where you’re just worn completely out? When you can sleep knowing God’s got it, that’s some good sleep. The second time when the angel woke him, he did it with great care and tenderness. The angel had provided water and bread again and told him to eat and drink because he had a journey ahead. 40 days and nights Elijah journeyed just on the food that the angel had brought. In a cave, God took him where it was just him and God. God asked him what he heard or wanted. Elijah knew what God had done and had seen it yet his soul was in unrest. God sent wind, fire, and an earthquake but God wasn’t in any of it. Elijah was looking for God. Get your eyes off of the world and place them on God and He will show up in a big and mighty way.

If you were Elijah would you have boasted on social media about the fire that was brought down? We like to brag and get boastful because our flesh likes that pat on the back and the attention it brings.

Listen, seek God, listen and you will know it. Wrap up in His mantle, pray again, sing again, attend church again, and live in His spirit! God hasn’t given up on you so don’t give up on Him. Our children need to hear you sing, praise and pray to God when the times get hard. This will show them when their times get hard they know where they can go, straight to God. A well-worn path is easy to follow.
