Reverence Only To God
Psalm 89:5-18 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
One should be careful of what one seems holy, worshipped. People these days seem to NEED their cell phone. People don't want to hear that we should fear God. When you truly know God then you'll have a reverence to Him. A lot of people hold a lot of things to a higher standard and those things will all burn up in the end. One can't take those things with them when they die. People come in Sunday after Sunday but they come and go the same way. It matters what we worship. There should only be one thing that is revered and that is God. Three categories should be thought on and given up one. Days and times are not to be reverenced. Six days should a person work but the seventh should be used as a day of rest and worship. Not only are days not to be reverenced but the events should also not be. There will never be a holiday more important than Jesus. Things should not be worshipped. In some religions items are used for worship, beads, crucifixes, etc. if those things are a part of your worship and keep you from worshipping if you do not have it, get rid of it. The church building itself has no power to save and therefore is not needed for God to show up. Should we respect it, honor it, keep it as clean as our own, yes-yes and yes again. But only God should be worshipped and not the building. The bible should not be worshipped. You must be careful about the Holy Word and not to let the book itself become more holy than God. There are times that you'll want to hold your bible, sleep with it, not leave its side, but in the end it's only a book. If your bible burnt to ash Jesus would still be Jesus and you could simply go out and get a new one. People should not be revered. Mary the mother of Jesus is no different than one of us and should not be higher than God. The Pope is commonly referred to as the Holy Father, His Holiness, The Rock, Supreme Pontiff, Holy of Kings, however he is no holy than the next person. The pastor of a church should also not be worshipped. When the time comes and the pastor leaves a church, some people will follow the man. Pastors will often have reverend as their title, a poor practice but they should not be reverenced. One can not worship everything and ever worship God. God is first and everything else should follow in its place. Acts 12:4, you can personally know the Pope and not know Jesus Christ and bust Hell wide open at your death.

Be Still
Psalm 46:1-11 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Even when you're really still you're often times still busy within. Most everyone lives by some sort of timeline. Be still. Let go and let God. We must stop with the television, cell phone, etc. These things take up our times with God. A sacrifice is often made because we don't want to give up those things. A lot of our instruction requires us to be still. Check your "to do lists" and make sure that God is on it. At the top of the list should be, be still for God. One can't say that they don't have time to be still with God. There has always been 24 hours in the day. The problem is that stuff takes up that time and we are unwilling to remove the stuff and replace it with God. Make an effort to make time for God. Our schedules should have God in them and if they don't then what does that say? It will fall apart if I'm not involved. This is false, God is in full control and without Him it would fall apart. We are replaceable. Look in a graveyard and you'll see it full replaced people. The things they once did someone else has picked it up and are continuing it. Are we not like a person that's afraid of a bee? The devil comes around and we begin flailing around trying to stop him. All the while WE have no control over the devil by ourselves. God is the only one that can rid of of the devil and his pestering actions. We must put God first, be still. We must all graduate from kindergarten when it comes to our spiritual lives. Get off the milk and start consuming solid foods. Prayer along is alright but you need more Jesus to truly live. We must know Him, intimately, personally because He wants to hold us. God is asking us to stop and be still for just a moment so He can be close to us. Once you get to that place, hope grows as well as our faith.

Components of Prayer
Daniel 6:10 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
  1. We must pray in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We must commit to prayer. One must make a commitment to God before they can commit to praying to Him. Real prayer takes a commitment, a sacrifice from something else in order to keep the commitment. We as a fleshly person do not want to have or make another commitment. Have you committed to God a time and a place? Does prayer work? How many of you commit to prayer? Most don't commit meaning they are hypocrites because they believe in the power of prayer but unwilling to pray.
  3. We must find a place to pray. One can't pray with things happening around you, distractions. You must have a oneness with God. One can't read a book and pray too. One can't watch or have the tv on and pray at the same time. The flesh is weak and is easily distracted.
  4. The attitude of prayer needs to be humbling. Pride is the number one problem. Pride will tell you that you just prayed yesterday. We must also live righteously. One can't live like the devil today and tomorrow pray like nothing ever happened yesterday. If one has acknowledged sin in their heart then God will not hear them when they pray.
  5. Daniel committed to prayer three times a day because he had read that David committed to prayer morning, noon and night. The quantity is not what's important now, it's the quality. Effectual prayer is what's needed.

Teach a Child in the Way it Should Go
1 Samuel 3:1-10 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Giving the best to your children, Jesus. Teach them that in the time of their struggles to rely on God. We as parents have a major responsibility to bring up our children in a Godly way. Police your children and what they encounter whether it be the television, radio, schools or other homes. We as adults will be gone and our children will take over at that point. Your children need to see and hear us as parents pray and trust God. Prayer has been removed schools and the government. Just because you're a Christian doesn't mean that your child will also be a Christian. What keeps one out of hell is not someone else's salvation but theirs only.
Preached by Tommy Boring on February 14, 2016 (Sunday Evening).
Never Give Up
2 Corinthians 4:6-10 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Religion will not change you, it will corrupt you. You must be born again to experience His love. Going through the motions is simply going through the motions. There is no other way to heaven than to be born again. When God saves you, He doesn't save the outward being, the flesh. You may be the most beautiful looking person in the world but the flesh will go back to the dust of the earth when you die. The closer you get to God, the less you'll worry about the flesh. How many hours to we waste feeding the flesh that has nothing to do with God? We are troubled on every side because we live in the flesh. So how do we live without stress? We must turn to the inward, God.
Preached by Tommy Boring on September 9, 2015 (Wednesday).
