Continuously In Prayer
2 Samuel 5:17-25 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
How many are simply satisfied with a single knock and give up? Do we not give-up too quickly? We should always pray and ask God about everything before we do it. How many of us act before we pray? We should always know that Gods knows our future and what's best, therefore we should always seek after His direction. God is a jealous god and demands no other idols before Him. A lot of times we assume what God will say and act on it before we ask. We know Gods nature and know that He is good but the one thing we do not know is His will. This is why we must pray and ask Him. With David and the battles between the Philistines the first was a true battle, a fight, but the second was simply to wait and watch. You'll never know what God wants unless you ask. With the prayer of Gideon he asked God to do two things and those things were answered. Two simple things that Gideon asked but when God proved Himself Gideon never doubted afterwards. With Gideon's battle God told him that he had too many people and sifted them down to 300 men and no swords. In the end, it took trumpets and lanterns to slay thousands of men. How did both of these men know what to do in order to win their battles? Prayer and obedience. Eph 6:18, there's things you want to see done but you've got to pray and obey. Just because it works for others and it's worked for you in the past doesn't mean that it's what God has planned for you to do. The affect to obeying God and being obedient to His word effects the rest of our future generations.

Living A Broken Life
Daniel 5:18-22 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
God is able to bring anyone down to a humility. Your pride will take you down. Had can raise a person up and He most certainly can bring them back down. Everyday people let pride stop them from worshipping God. Do you think your life is needed by God for something your capable of doing? David's fall wasn't his lust but his pride that made him think that since he was the king he could have anything he wanted. Pride removed half of Heaven when Lucifer was thrown from it. Guess what kills churches today, pride. How should we live a life without pride? We should live broken, humbled. Phil 2:1-3, this should be our guide in our lives. How many times have you attended church and thought you're doing good. You've read your bible and prayed some during the week. But once you've entered the church and worship begins it tears thru you because of your lack prideful thoughts of thinking you've accomplished something. 1 Peter 5:6, Phil 2:5, stay humble! We are hypocrites because most say that we are good but we are not. Phil 2:6, Jesus was sent to become a human man. He is God incarnate therefore the greatest humility that a God would become a person. Thinking of who was worth Christ's death to remove our sins. Not one person is worth His love. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. You will never accomplish that while having pride in your life. Money can disappear tomorrow. Your health while good today could turn horrible bad tomorrow.

The God That Ponders The Heart
Proverbs 21:2 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
There is nothing that one can hide from God. He can everything from the thought to the action. God doesn't work on the outside but the inside. Most walk around and think we've got God fooled by hiding. The great thing is that He knows what we are capable of. He knows each and everyone of us when we were formed in the womb.

David was the youngest of his siblings, a runt. He was given the lowest job, a Shepard, but he loved it. God seen that David was important and had him anointed by Samuel. David went out to fight Goliath because Goliath stood against his God. David had confidence that his God would take care of him no matter what. Everyone around David looked at him from the outside, they judged him by his outward appearance not knowing what God knew and could see. They were focused too much on the outward appearance. Just as we do, we are too quick to judge someone based on their appearances. We also miss out on victories because we are too focused on the mountain.

When God ponders the heart He doesn't care what we think because He knows. He will address the sin with you but we like to justify those sins. He tries to mold us into more like Him by trying to get us to repent of those sins.

Fully Persuaded Faith
Romans 4:16-25 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
When God gives you a promise, it will not be broken. We usually question because we have doubt or fear but we shouldn't do that against God. David as a shepherd, had faith and was fully persuaded that God was in full control over Goliath. He took one stoner per giant because he had full faith that God would take care of each giant. Daniel was fully persuaded that God would protect him in the lions den. Too many Christians today are only half persuaded because they still depend on things over God. Most are scared of the enemy thus the reason they can't fully trust God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego all faced a test of a fiery furnace. They stood their ground and what they believed. They were fully persuaded that no matter what they were going to come out as winners. A person that's wavering in their faith can't be trusted with their faith. Where does their faith go when the trials come? So if God is for you, who can be against you? Romans 8:28 NOTHING can separate God's love from His believers. There is nothing that we can say towards God's promises. The problem will always come back to yourself and the lack of being fully persuaded and having a weak faith. Are you willing to quit following your fears?

Supposing He Is With Us
Luke 2:40-45 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Sin has a price. For a moment sin seems good but in the end, the price is death. Disobedience to the Word of God not only hurts ourselves but it hurts our loved ones. Never give the devil a place to start in your life. Remove pride from yourselves and humble yourselves. We are to love God above anything else and to keep His commandments. If you're saved and you're out in the world, sin will accumulate in your heart. We are to ask God to cleans us each day. As long as we obey Him, He is with us. We are to share Jesus.
Preached by Rick Rutherford on January 15, 2014 (Wednesday).
