There is Despair When There is No Success
1 Kings 19:1-18 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Elijah prayed for rain and within hours it was raining but shortly after during his miracle the enemy came to him. The goal was not about rain, it was about men changing their hearts towards God. When the enemy came to Elijah he ran off away from the enemy. If a man like Elijah could be caught in a snare all the while in Gods miracles, how could we do it? Have you ever been there in great despair? Have you ever prayed, studied, worked and fasted but nothing happened? We can't make someone get saved, change them or make certain things happen by our doings. During Elijah's despair there was no body around to help him in his time of need. No one was their to help him see that God was still there when the enemy was punching him in the gut. In your work place, if you don't perform your job then there is no paycheck. But in God work, He already knows your work and your payout isn't truly based on your work. Think about when the preachers preach and the response is great from the congregation. But thinking about the same thing and on Sunday nights folks nap during the service. Have you as a church member ever thought about cancelling a church service because no one is there in attendance? Nothing gets done when we wallow in our disappointments. Have you ever known God not to be with you? Gods people will end up in despair at some point in their Christian walk but they always end up at Gods feet. God will pick them up and put them back on their journey each and every time. So when you get disappointed, you'll sit down, backslide.

We Need to Rebuild the Altar of God
1 Kings 18:30-39 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
Mans heart is continually evil when there's no God in it. We all have a God shaped hole that can only be answered and filled by God Himself. It's not enough we come to church and nod at the preacher and pray little prayers. Prayer needs to be a two way straight. Our relationship with God should be a two way relationship. That's how we grow. Pray! Things don't happen because we don't pray. We need to repair the altars. How do they get broken down? 1. On purpose - willfully contrary to God living as if they have no God. 2. Weak - some who have not grown in the Lord neglected the truth and need to use what God has given them. If God can do all things then why are they not happening? Because we didn't ask. These small prayers of food and clothes are already provided for. We should seek God for the extraordinary. Altars are necessary points of intersection. Most of us pray selfish prayers. We've not surrendered to the will of God. If you get serious with God, He'll get serious with you. There's a reason to pray for the souls of mankind that need intercession. A sacrifice is involved at the altar of God in order to get right with God. We must get rid of something. The altar of God is a place of intercession and sacrifice. Prayer is a dialogue and not a monologue. Anything you rely on that's not God is Baal, a false god. The altars of God are also of faith. The altar was established for the people to restore the people back to God. When you pray, believe God can do the things you ask and He will. When you truly commit yourself to prayer your life will change. The altar is also a place of action. Gods children are more than spectators. We have an active work to do. Every member of the body of God is expected to carry the load. Not just a few but everyone should do their part. We have to respond as a people to God in order to see prayers answered and live changed.

Voiceless Idols
1 Kings 18:20-29 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
People are confused today of whom god really is. You can put any little god up for comparison and none of them can touch God. So you think you don't live near anyone that worships another god? They will either worship God or worship an earthly god. Can your god answer you? Self has become a god and self can't help itself. Self can't answer or help you nor can they deliver you out of a bad situation. Some worship their phones and would think they were dying if they're phone was removed from their life. Go ahead and ask Siri if she could save you in the time of need. Test your god and see if it can do godly things. An idol has no voice and never will.

Do You Get An Answer?
1 Kings 18:20-40 (Part of the True Worship series).
Are you or do you know people that say that God doesn't speak to them? Your altar should be rebuilt cleaned and used. You must be in a position for God to answer you. Stop blaming God for not answering you and start getting rid of the sin in your life.
Preached by Bruce Whitehead on November 25, 2012 (Sunday Evening).
