Seeking A Sign (Matthew 12:38-42, Matthew 16:1-4)

Cameron CrispCameron Crisp, January 6, 2019
Part of the Miscellaneous series, preached at a Sunday Evening service

We live in a time where people want a sign, they actively seek for it.

In the time of Jesus people seen Him heal many and raise the dead unto life but people then still wanted a sign, proof. There's only one way into Heaven and that's thru Christ and nothing or no one else. After Christ's death no one was able to see the miracles that He performed. He did these things to prove that He was God incarnate. He proved it and therefore He is and was and is to come.

What sign will it take for you to believe in Christ? He's done all He can to prove Himself to you.

Matthew 12:38-42

38Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. 42The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. (KJV)

Matthew 16:1-4

1The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. (KJV)
