The Cross and the Crown (Part 2 of 2) (1 Corinthians 9:18-27)Tommy Boring, July 5, 2017
Part of the Miscellaneous series, preached at a Wednesday service
If there was nothing more than peace on earth, then it would be worth it all. But there is another place that been prepared for those that are born again. Some say that if that could just get in the gate to Heaven then it'll be alright. But this is not biblical. Just as running a marathon, practice and self discipline is much needed. All the track running and winning one can do will bring forth great gifts of money and trophies. These items will all burn up and are only temporary. People do not see the gift of God therefor they do not do Gods Work in order to obtain His reward. In this world we must carry our cross, burdens but in the end you'll trade your cross for a crown. James 1:12 the crown of life. Heaven will never end, life everlasting, the greatest reward of being born again. People live and die by your testimony. 2 Tim 4:8 there will be a crown of righteousness if we have done our part and love Jesus and worked for Him. 1 Peter 5:4 a crown of Glory will be obtained by those that preach His word. Rev 5:8-10 these are the descriptions of the elders, those that have been born again. Rev 4:9-11 this is the reason we as a Christian have crowns. The more you can do for God as a Christian, the more you'll have to lay at His feet to honor Him.

1 Corinthians 9:18-27
18What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 19For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. 24Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
