What Have You Committed? (2 Timothy 1:6-12)Jeff Patton, September 17, 2014
Part of the Miscellaneous series, preached at a Wednesday service
We all have a calling to tell others about Jesus. To be truly born again we had to completely sell out to Him. God gave you everything in life and therefore we own nothing. We need to remember everything that God has given us whether a trial or a blessing. There is a cause! When you commit to God, He will take all those unneeded things away so you can be focused on His work. An old wives tale, "God won't put more on you that you can't bare." Many times we have things in our lives that we can't handle. Give it to God so He can carry it. Commit means to give and entrust or charge. If you believe that God can keep your salvation, how come you can entrust Him to take care of your problems? Stop holding on to the world with one hand and trying to hold on to God with the other. A son is a sin, there is no big or little sin. Give ALL of them to God. We are to love God with ALL of our being with everything. Can't sleep? Give it to God! If you're walking around with things that should be given to God, what are you saying to those around you? The proof is in the pudding. We should prove to others who our God is by walking with giving God our burdens and trials. Salvation takes work and we show our salvation to others through our work or life. So why haven't you given those things to God? What's holding you back? Where is your faith? Sometimes it takes a little work and afflictions to show our faith to others. There is a purpose that Christ saved you. He didn't purchase your sin just to sit you on a shelf just to be looked at. To be saved you had to commit it ALL to Him, so why can't you commit it all now? 1 Peter 4:16 If you're saved, live like it! Did God kinda save you or did He completely save you? Live like it!

2 Timothy 1:6-12
6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 9Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: 11Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
