Do I Please The Lord?
1 Thessalonians 4:1 (Part of the Miscellaneous series).
People do what they want to do because that’s how they’re made. When you get get wrapped up with yourself then you’ll push God out of your life. If you’re not saved then you can’t answer the title question, do I please the Lord. The saved have a responsibility to please God. We all have a responsibility to live and push ourselves to work for a living, financially. Are you living for God? Why did you attend church this morning? 1. If one doesn’t have faith in Jesus Christ then you can’t please God. Hebrews 11:6 Faith without works is dead, likewise works without faith is wasteful. If you’re saved then you’ll want to work for Christ. If you’re lost and try to work your way into Heaven then you’re wasting your time. One can say they love God all day long. One can say they believe in Jesus Christ every second. Words are just words and without the change of salvation takes place then the words are a waste of air and fool others. 2. One must obey God. If you’re disobeying God He will chastise you. It will not be enjoyable in the least bit. If God never chastises you then you’re lost. He only punishes His children. He isn’t fooled about the sins and therefore will punish you once you sin. 3. Surrendering to God completely pleases God. Romans 8:6-8 In order to please God completely one must die out completely to themselves. It’s all about God and Him alone. If just don’t care, then you’re probably lost. If you’ve been born again you’ll have a desire to please Him. It’s ALL about Jesus. Isa 53:10 Col 1:15

Pray For One Another
1 Thessalonians 5:15-28 (Part of the The Need For Christian Duties series).
We should be constantly growing in grace as we go along. Not only are we moving closer to God as we age but we should also grow as a Christian as we get closer to Him. We should be praying for each other and in order to do that we must be completely engaged. Have you ever woke up with someone on your mind? It's a wonderful thing to know that someone is praying for you.

Do you think that it doesn't make a difference to pray? It all revolves around whom you're praying to. How big is your god?

Gal 6:2, we should bare each other's burdens, pray for each other.

Don't excuse yourself without a permission slip. If you think that you're not a prayer warrior then you're limiting the god that you're serving. The God that called you is the one that keeps you therefore you should have great confidence. We should be praying for each other. Praying means it will cost you. It requires your time and might be hard to bare someone's burden.

We should greet each other with love and respect. Some cultures still greet with a kiss, we are not one of them but we do have handshakes, hugs and even eye contact.

Stay Away From Evil Things
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 (Part of the The Need For Christian Duties series).
People don't want to hear this saying anymore. People want to live the way they want to, however they want and whenever they want. Once you're born again you are no longer yourself but holy. How many of you have damaged your testimony because you've messed with something that you know you shouldn't had? Did you know that people are watching you whether you want them to or not? To some people the only "bible" they know is thru your life. Staying away from evil cramps people's style.

Let's just be honest for just a minute, look in the mirror and you should see a person that has problems with staying away from evil. One of the hardest things to do is to control the tongue. The scripture doesn't just apply to the preachers or deacons. It was addressed to ALL Christians.

It's very difficult to get a persons confidence back after it's been lost. You're the one that the lost is watching and taking note on your actions. Christians have been pulled out of the world and therefore shouldn't be IN the world. The lost are constantly looking for hypocrites.

One must prove it first to make sure it's of a Godly nature. Do the "smell test". Stop and take the time to evaluate prior to doing them. There is no grey area when it comes to right or wrong. The grey area is created by us that wants to feel good about doing something wrong, therefore it would classified as wrong. The power of the church is based upon the faithfulness or life of its members. Phil 4:8, there are things that should be done in front of the lost.

One can't unscramble the eggs or put the toothpaste back into the tube. What do you do if you've messed things up with your testimony/life? Change, there is an expectation that each time you attend church there should be a change. When we change the lost will see it and want to know what's the difference. We should apologize to them for acting out wrong.

Prove
1 Thessalonians 5:21 (Part of the The Need For Christian Duties series).
No matter who is doing the teaching or preaching we should always know if it's the truth or not. There are many that for many years claim to be Christian but don't even know what the bible says. How can you check what is being taught if you don't know what the truth is? The only source of truth is the Word of God. 1 John 4:1, there are a lot of wolves in sheep clothing. We should not be live every spirit because not all spirits are good. A preacher should always be reading and have the bible with them at all times. Opinions are not truth but of personal thoughts. Preachers can lead you wrong. They can be teaching you something that they don't fully know themselves. It's not that all would intentionally mislead or misguide but simply not know and teach on assumptions. If you don't go to Sunday School then you need to start. The key word there is school. Our church is in session for about an hour learning more about Gods Word every Sunday. We should prove the preaching and to prove all things. We should know the difference between good and evil. Do you believe there is a devil? A car mass does one thing and one thing only, it points to true north. Just as the compass, the scripture points to the truth. We are pretty smart at most times and we know when we are in the middle of something that's not right. How do they know what is a counterfeit bill, they study the real. Not only should we prove what is good but we are to hold to those truths. It's a continuous process of sowing and reaping good things. The preacher can't plant the good stuff for you. He plants his own and you plant your own. In order to hold fast to the good it takes discipline. A lot of people don't like discipline because it's usually painful. Heb 10:23, you've got to make a choice and commit. Psa 119:33-34, once you've proven all things to the good then you should stick to the good, Phil 4:8.

Preaching
1 Thessalonians 5:20 (Part of the The Need For Christian Duties series).
In this scripture prophesying means, preaching. Despise: To dislike Have you ever sat under some preaching and thought, well that's not for me? We should never think that we are over the preached word. There is always something in a sermon that is for you. Preaching is important, the Word of God is very important to our souls. When you walk into our building the first thing one sees is the elevated pulpit. All of the pews are facing the front. All of our attention should be upon the front of the church. We should not honor the one bring the word but the word itself. God is not concerned about the vessel but the obedience it has. The story should never get old. Every time you hear about the cross and its suffering it should be like you've never heard it before and break you once again. Some hear the title of the sermon and mark it off as if they've got it figured out already and do not need it. Don't check out prematurely! No matter whom is preaching the message and whether you like them or not, it's not the deliverers that bless but the Word of God. We must ALL be careful of whom is bringing the Word because that person is only a deliverer. Don't think yourself above the preaching. It pleases God thru the foolishness of preaching. The jumping, yelling, crying, screaming, running, etc. Not only to save souls but to keep them and grow them. We don't know how God is going to bless and feed so we must be very careful NOT to despise.
